80s New Wave Song/Song Title story time again…?

So I started a story the other day with some people using 80s music and it continues on today. This story/musical is told in 80s New Wave/Punk songs

It helps if you’re an 80s lover and like Dancing With Myself but know Billy Idol had WAY better stuff like Dead On Arrival or maybe have a slight Joan Jett Patty Smyth obsession, and can certainly name 3 songs by Berlin without naming Take My Breath Away…

It is really simple you will name one song and the next person will name one song that should follow that song in our story and each person will add one song in like fashion. The idea is to tell a story through 80s music, the decade I think had the best popular music ever. Much like the mesage boards where people add to a story. And here is our 80s musical story thus far

Which musical group in your mind represents the best recreation of New Wave?

Only two rules apply for this question. You CANNOT choose a band that was originally from the 80’s, like Missing Persons or Devo, hence the word “recreation.” Second, it’s got to be New Wave or somehow able to have a compelling case made for its inclusion in the genre. To this point, I haven’t been a huge fan of most of the offerings of the second coming. Bands like The Killers never did it for me. Then I caught theSTART and to put it mildly I was blown away. Please forgive me in advance if I go all Queenadreena on these guys for the next couple of weeks or so, they’re that good.

Prof Anger – Great to see you too! Interpol is a good pick, although I’ve always felt they channeled their inner Joy Division or Bauhaus, thus making them closer to the rock critics dreaded category invention of post-punk. theSTART is from your neck of the woods so you’ll have no shortage of opportunities to catch them live. Just caught the tour schedule, I’m jealous!
Mizz SJG – Holy crap, I never would’ve picked you out to be a Neutral Milk Hotel fan. Just when you think you know a riot grrl well!
James M – I have to agree with you in that you can’t go home again. There’s no replicating the original time period.
Adam – Hey, that’s OK. If you get a chance, go back and check out some videos by Missing Persons. They’re fairly indicative of what New Wave is based not just on the music but the fashion as well. It helped rid us all of the bad taste left by disco.
Darth – Sorry, not buying it ever. Darth is very much not dead. You know you’re an important fixture in this forum. DARTH LIVES!!!
Fonzie T – That might the best band put forth here since they most definitely are New Wave coupled with the fact they rock. And they have the Geico cavemen as fans, imagine that? I can’t believe I forgot all about The Sounds. And thanks, it’s been a long hiatus. It’s time to get back to work.
I Could Be Again – Long time, no speak. This is a very tough call since I like Ladytron a whole bunch. They’re sort of on the cusp of New Wave but just not quite there. Easily in the top three for all electroclash artists.
Mr. Bernstein – Hey, I know this “artiste.” And now she’s just changed her freaking name. I do like the song LES Artistes.

Las vegas New Wave, will it put a stop to the so called 80′s influenced EMO bullshi*?

there is a new wave coming out of vegas, which include bands that are the TRUE result of 80′s new wave! now I know that emo will die regardless, but in order for it to die there must be a killer! Will it be 80′s new wave reborn? or Jerry lee lewis?

No offense, but you can’t go around telling everyone that morrissey is the godfather of emo!
that’s offensive in so many ways.

New Wave of THRASH METAL?

OK… so Tron got me on a music hunt yesterday, and I stumbled across a crazy number of real good new Thrash bands from all over the world.

I grew up on in the Bay Area in the 80s, so I was suckled on Thrash… but I admit…. I had not really been wowed by too much since the mid 90s… so I drifted away.

Now, it seems like there is a hidden revival going on, and some real quality acts are coming out.
( Municipal Waste, Gama Bomb, Cripper, Evile, Che Lie, Warbringer, etc….. )

So my question to you:

Who do YOU think is currently the best of the modern Thrash bands?

and who would you rate as your top 5 modern Thrash Metal bands?

Which late 70s/early 80s British wave of music do you prefer?

Both 2 Tone Ska and the New Wave of British Heavy Metal emerged in England in the late 70s – early 80s.

Bands like:
NWOBHM – Iron Maiden, Raven, Praying Mantis, Saxon, Angel Witch, etc
2 Tone Ska – The English Beat, The Specials, Madness, etc

I know they are practically opposite genres, but which wave do you like more?

My answers:

I love both the NWOBHM and 2 Tone Ska, but I like the NWOBHM more. It was just pure Heavy Metal, and there were some of the best metal bands ever from that time period.

My favorite NWOBHM band is Iron Maiden

My favorite 2 Tone Ska band is a tie between the Specials and Madness

I’m not sure where you live, but here in the USA no one seems to appreciate 2 Tone Ska. Ska has never been too popular as a genre here. On Vh1 I think they said that to call Madness a one-hit wonder band anywhere but the USA would be crazy.
