VNV Nation “Testament” Music Video from Judgement Album
filed in Darkwave VNV Nation on Jul.10, 2010
Video I made for the new album. For some reason, whenever I listened to this song all I could think of were planes and jets. So I made this video from old stock footage.

Footage at 2:27, teammate gets in front of gunfire and takes rounds. Whoops! For some reason 4:00 gets sort of emotional to me. Picturing them so young and bonded with each other but now either very old or dead. I get the same feeling when I see old pictures of my grandfather when he was younger than I am now. Makes me feel so mortal.

@JaneCochran I think generally VNV is anti-violence, so pro-militaristic would be a long way from their views. Pointing people to the wrongs of violence and war (as happens in this song) is hardly pro-violence or -militarism.
Imo this vid nicely illustrates just how humanity in general fails at the ideals propagated in this song

I’ve listened to this tune about 30 times now, and i can’t think of a better message other than that VNV straight up KNOWS the world is going down, and he sings about how we’re doing it to ourselfs and were ignoring it, and he’s saying that HE is not the only one who’s noticed this and he’s not alone, and that if something doesn’t change then were all gone

@TBA4Freedom
VNV Nation is a band that tends to inspire deep thoughts & questions rather than promoting prepackaged answers or any form of propaganda. And because of that their songs can often be translated in many ways, but offhand I can’t recall a single song by them (including this one) that could be pro-military. In fact, I never connected this song to the military until I saw this vid (see my comment here from 2 months ago).
Just curious: what meaning did you get from the lyrics?

Yes….why?

Have you listened to the lyrics?

Vets and the military ROCK!! They ARE TOP priority. We MUST show total support. God Bless them all.

“And im not the only one who thinks we’re trying to say- to all the heavens and all who hear us behold what we have made, we bring destruction, we bring war without an end. And then we live in hope that tomorrow never comes- that it never comes…” The only text i know better than the lyrics to this song is the bible that i live by…

I never thought of the song this way before, but having seen this vid (over & over!), I think it fits it very well. This really does illustrate one way the song could be understood. I think this appeals to me, too, because it symbolizes the great tragedy of our species, of burning paradise to the ground in the name of defending a world based on supposed principles that has never even existed in the first place.
“We speak of greatness that we have never been.”
